Unless you’re a MAC fan, it seems like new products are few and far between. I have spotted a few products that seem worth trying. Plus, there are a few products I need to just suck up and dish out the money for.
1.) While flipping through Allure, I spotted Kevyn Aucoin The Sensual Skin Tinted Balm. I did just return The Sensual Skin Enhancer. Of course, there was no sign of the tinted balm when I was placing that order. The Skin Enhancer was flawless, but like paste… literally. I’d be very interested if this tinted balm could provide that coverage, minus the intense consistency.
2.) SK-II Eye Mask – These puppies are pricey. I’ve been dying to try anything from SK-II since I’ve heard legendary MUA Pat McGrath swearing by their products. Crow’s feet is a common nightmare I suffer from and my under eyes are the driest place on my face, so I really would love to get my hands on a product like this.
3.) Alterna Anti-Breakage Thermal Protectant Spray – I’ve never tried a product from Alterna, but this product is specifically for high-heat and damaged hair. Since, I’ve fried my hair with bleach, a girl needs all the help she can get.
4.) RiRi Hearts MAC – I don’t really like MAC, but I do love Rihanna. I didn’t even know this collection was coming out until I spotted an article on DailyMail. Thank goodness the Brits stay on top of their news. I have no idea what products are coming out or when it launches, but that packaging looks amazing!
5.) NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder – I saw this recently at Sephora. It has a very weird/silica feeling to it… even more than MUFE HD powder. On Sephora’s website, many of the reviews tried to compare these powders, but I don’t think that’s possible. I love the HD powder, despite being a choking hazard, and so does every other celebrity MUA on the planet. The reason I do want to try this powder is because I want to see if it could replace my Le Metier Eye Brightening and Setting powder… dare I say (GASP!) It would be a much better bang for my buck and I think this product would be great for setting concealer. A girl can dream, right?
6.) Guerlain Eye Shadow Palette – I saw Sandra (ttsandra) talking about this in her recent YouTube video. I’ve been dying to try one of these palettes since I realized that the Dior’s palettes are overrated. Eye shadow is my weakness. I have so many and it is so hard to use up that I resist the urge, but I’d love to get my hands on at least one!
What products are on your wish list?
My first favorite is the Lancome Artliner in “Ice Black.”
I’ve tried this liner before because everyone raved about it and said it was miles better than the L’Oreal Lineur Intense. I actually love the L’Oreal liquid liner and think it’s just as good for an even better price. The Ice Black color, however, makes this liner worth the price. It looks more like a metallic bronzy/taupe shade… I don’t really know why ‘Black’ is even part of the name. It’s perfect for a natural daytime look!
Dr. Jart+ BB Beauty Balm – Black Label Detox
I’m beyond obsessed with this BB cream. It is the best one on the market by a long shot, so much so that every time I’m at Sephora it’s sold out or there is one left. It only comes in one general shade, which at first sight may throw you off, but trust me it settles into the skin perfectly.
According to Sephora, this BB cream was designed to…
“Perfect and protect skin instantly with this all-in-one multifunctional Beauty Balm. This triple-action formula naturally covers blemishes and uneven skintone, and contains botanical actives to purify and calm blemish-prone or irritated skin. Arbutin works to erase unwanted dark spots, while caviar extract and antioxidants protect skin from inner and outer pollutants for an enhanced radiance. Lightweight with sunscreen protection for simple, one-step neutralizing coverage, this soothing cream delivers optimal results for both women and men.”
It’s perfect for people with sensitive, acne-prone skin!
Wen Fall Ginger Pumpkin Cleansing Conditioner
Unfortunately, this specific scent is no longer for sale, unless you took advantage of the auto-delivery deal last weekend. I personally love it! I thought it was going to smell like pumpkin pie on my head, but it’s more understated than that and doesn’t leave your hair smelling like dessert. Pumpkin is great for conditioning and strengthening the hair too!
Bobbi Brown Bronzer
The first time I bought this I got it in “Light.” The second time around, I switched to “Medium.” I much prefer Medium… it works great with my Sonia Kashuk Chisel brush too. In my skincare post, I talked about how my skin is highly sensitive to bronzer and this doesn’t cause any negative reactions. It reminds me of Benefit Hoola bronzer, but isn’t as powdery. Hoola tends to become a bit of a mess and the little box sort of annoys me. This is definitely my holy grail bronzer!
I don’t actually like OPI. I gave up buying it years ago and settled for Essie and Tom Ford, which still make the best nail polish formula in my opinion. I love anything James Bond related, so being the dork that I am, I caved and bought “The Spy Who Loved Me.” It the perfect red shade for the Holiday’s and has the tiniest bit of red sparkle.
What products are you loving?
I’ve avoided most of the Shu Uemura hype. I always see some lovely ladies on YouTube with their fancy Shu shampoo, and I habitually tell myself the golden sentence all beauty hoarders must say “you don’t need it… you have a shower/drawer/closet full of crap you never touch.” Let’s face it… lying to ourselves like that isn’t fun.
So I gave up and bought more things I didn’t need.
My introduction to Shu hair products was the “Essence Asbolue,” which is an absolutely necessary purchase. It’s a nourishing protective oil, which translates to this product is an all-in-one. It de-frizzes, is a hydrating oil, and acts as a heat protectant. It’s my one holy grail hair product, to use the most cliched term possible. If I was stuck on a desert island, this would come with me! Unlike MoroccanOil, and various other argon knockoffs, this doesn’t have any silicone in it. It’s $68, but I only use 2 pumps of it and comb it through my damp hair.
As a girl with long, thick, naturally curly hair… I basically need this product to cement the straggly pieces of hair into some sort of normal formation, otherwise I’d look like Medusa, and I need to look like this…
The next product I got was a complete flop, “Essential Drops.” This is described as a purifying blend for normal to oily scalps with essential oils and peppermint oil. It comes in a dropper container that allows you place the drops directly on the scalp. I’ve discussed in several skincare video’s that I suffer from sebborheic dermatitis. It’s too scientific to go into details. I have a mild case of it, but unfortunately it’s chronic and there is no cure. It mainly effects my scalp and I thought this would help in some way… it did not. This product cost $48 and I could have added some peppermint oil to some other oil and gotten the same results. I’ve only used these drops like 3 times and bottle is halfway gone. I’ve been pretty obsessed with scalp treatments lately because a healthy scalp is the best way to get your hair to grow faster. I’m going to make a homemade version of this and will let you know the difference.
Last, but not least, I ordered a new eyelash curler. My sad, sad eyelash curler posted above has been with me since high school. I figured it was time to break up and move on. This is by far my favorite curler and deserves every ounce of praise it receives. I’ve tried them all from MAC to Tweezerman, and they just don’t hold the same lasting curl as the Shu does. I highly recommend it, however, because Shu is no longer sold in the US you have to purchase their cosmetics online… which took FOREVER!
I could have driven to Pennsylvania and picked up this eyelash curler faster than it arrived.
Have you tried any great Shu Uemura products?
I posted this picture of me on Instagram the other day. I put my hair up in a high pony-tail using one of Emi-Jay’s hair ties, twisted it, and tucked the ends under the band. To my astonishment, I woke up with my hair in this condition. Needless to say… I’m obsessed!
I spotted these babies at Nordstrom… Well, first I spotted my girl-crush, Jen Aniston. Jen wore an Emi-Jay hairband to some event or another. This revelation meant I needed to purchase them immediately.
You get 3 hair ties per pack for $6.50. I bought them in 2 shades: neutral & the sparkly pack.
I’m obsessed with this company, in addition to the hair ties. It was started by 2 friends, all their products are made in America, they donate a portion of every sale to charity, they don’t damage your hair like the usual hair band, they’re stylish and a great addition to your arm party!
A lot of companies are making bootleg version’s of these now, but I think it’s worth spending the extra 2 bucks to support 2 girls running a small business!
I do have to warn you that they don’t maintain their pristine shape. I still prefer the look of them on my wrist more than the usual hair band.
I’ve heard they have headbands too. I haven’t gotten my hands on those yet, but I’m definitely going to get more colors of these hair ties!
